Cosmos to Kiwis: Brian Cunningham’s Soccer Journey (Part IV)

Home/U.S. Soccer Leagues/NPSL/Cosmos to Kiwis: Brian Cunningham’s Soccer Journey (Part IV)

ISN is excited to have former Lansing United and New York Cosmos B standout Brian Cunningham as a guest columnist.   Each of his blog entries will share part of his journey as he lives out his dream of becoming a professional footballer across the globe in New Zealand.

Match day morning! I’m excited, but here’s a little inside scoop: I never really get too hyped up. I mean, who doesn’t get those jitters when they’re about to play a game, right? That’s why we do it. Playing gives you that rush of excitement. Not anxiety, but that feeling like when we were kids. World-class professionals even get this feeling, and they say if you ever lose that feeling, stop. But for me, I try to play every game with the mindset that it’s all for the joy, the thrill, and the entertainment. That’s when I feel it best.

This week was pretty eventful! I think the highlight was speaking on the TAB Trackside Live radio show. It’s the national sports radio here in New Zealand. And catch this, THEY READ MY BLOG! We spoke about my journey though the game, and how I’m spending my time in New Zealand. It’s so enjoyable and humbling every time I get to speak in interviews and reach out to people that are supportive of what I do. Not that I always want to talk about myself, but in having those conversations, I also learn about those people and share connections with them.
