Crew Remains Unbeaten on the Road

Home/U.S. Soccer Leagues/MLS/Columbus Crew SC/Crew Remains Unbeaten on the Road

The Columbus Crew (3-1-1, 10 points) secured a road point with a 1-1 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes (0-2-2, 2 points) on Sunday afternoon at Buck Shaw Stadium. Behind a 44th-minute goal from Federico Higuain, the Crew remains unbeaten on the road in 2014 (2-0-1) following today’s draw.

Higuain put the Crew on the board first, capitalizing on a Waylon Francis cross that was initiated by Hector Jimenez. The goal – Higuain’s fourth of the season and his 20th career MLS tally – gave the visitors a 1-0 lead headed into halftime. Six minutes into the second half, the Quakes responded with a Chris Wondolowski goal as the forward headed home a Shea Salinas corner kick in the 51st minute. Goalkeeper Steve Clark made four saves in his Barbasol Man of the Match performance.

“Moving forward, it’s a point on the road, but we look to continue to get better,” Clark remarked. “We will continue to do the little things right. We will work on just getting better as a team and we want to defend better on our set pieces and not give those up.”

The Crew returns to action next weekend on Saturday, April 19 when the Black & Gold host D.C. United at Crew Stadium (7:30 p.m. ET/Time Warner Cable SportsChannel).
