AFC Ann Arbor forward Dario Suarez has been selected as the eleventh Mitre National Player of the Week for the 2017 NPSL season.

“Good things come together when you mix teamwork with passion,” Suarez commented.  “I am grateful for this recognition and thrilled to share this award with my teammates who made it all possible.”

Suarez recently had a four-goal weekend and now has six goals in four matches.

“Individual accolades are great and in Dario’s case well-deserved,” AFC Ann Arbor Head Coach & Sporting Director Eric Rudland added. “Even more importantly though, Dario’s performances have fueled positive results for our club and he is proving that he can be an effective two-way player.”

Suarez joined AFC Ann Arbor in the spring of 2016 for the club’s inaugural campaign in the National Premier Soccer League. The Cuban native previously played with his home country’s National Team, being called up for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

In his first season with The Mighty Oak of Association Football Club Ann Arbor, “Super Dario” shared the Great Lakes West Conference Golden Boot, helped the team earn second in the conference as well as their first playoff berth and U.S. Open Cup bid, and was recognized by the team as the Offensive MVP and Team MVP.

Suarez returned to Ann Arbor for the club’s 2017 campaign and the Cuban native is off to a hot start.

The winner of this national honor is determined by a vote of media members from across the country.  It is awarded every week during the regular season.
