Former Crew Defender Signs with San Jose

Home/U.S. Soccer Leagues/MLS/Columbus Crew SC/Former Crew Defender Signs with San Jose

Sometimes the good guys win.

This certainly was the case as Jed Zayner resumed his MLS career, signing with the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday.

The former Crew defender was a fan favorite in Columbus, known for a caring personality and his charitable work in the community.  He spent 5 seasons with the Crew, registering 21 starts in 36 appearances, scoring one goal and tallying one assist.  Zayner also spent a short time with D.C. United, making 13 appearances after a trade landed him in the nation’s capital.

The former Indiana University standout is reunited with former Crew teammates Jon Busch and Steven Lenhart.

“He’s a great friend,” Zayner said of Busch. “He’s the one guy who always gives words of advice and encouragement.  He is a classy guy who stands up for the young players.  He is loyal, someone who is always in your corner.”

“He is one of the reasons I’m here,” Zayner said of Lenhart. “We are like brothers. He is like the guy who knows you so well.”

Zayner spent the 2012 preseason on trial with the Earthquakes, but now he finds himself as part of the team just 2 points out of 1st place.

“I’m really excited to be with the Earthquakes,” the 2005 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy semifinalist added.  “They have great chemistry in the lockerroom.”

Zayner will be a great addition in San Jose, hoping to make the most of his first stop in the Western Conference.  He always gives 110% and ecourages his teammates. There is no doubt that he will be a positive factor on and off the pitch.

Congrats and good luck to Jed and the Quakes!
