A game winning goal in the second overtime by Trever Wendel gave Mount Union the 3-2 victory over Allegheny (Pa.) Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Mount Union Stadium. The victory advances the Purple Raiders to 4-3 on the season while Allegheny (Pa.) drops to 4-4-1 on the season. Mount Union’s men’s soccer team defeated Bluffton 3-0 Wednesday in their home opener of the 2014 season. The win advances Mount Union to 3-2 overall while Bluffton falls to 1-5. Freshman Trever Wendel scored at the 16:12 mark off a through ball from freshman Carter Dunn making the score 1-0 leading into halftime. Heading into halftime Mount Union extended the lead 2-0 after a Bluffton foul led to a cross by senior Jack Weber which was headed into the net by sophomore Kevin Blackley. The Mount Union men’s soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2014 season to the Yeomen of Oberlin College 4-0 on Saturday evening. The Purple Raiders offense took 13 shots on the night but was unable to capitalize against the strong Yeomen defense. In the final minutes of the first half, senior Jack Weber made a threat at the net but the Yeomens keeper Oidie Kuijpers was there to make the stop.
