Virginia Legacy will start play in the Mid-Atlantic Conference in 2014. The Mid-Atlantic Conference already includes CASL Elite (Raleigh, NC), Chesterfield United FC (Chesterfield, VA), D.C. An undermanned AFC Cleveland traveled to Hurley Field on Sunday night to face newcomer FC Sparta Michigan, a team that defeated the Royals 1-0 to open the NPSL regular season. It was more of the same as Sparta came away with a 2-1 home win over the Ohio side. Cleveland was without several key players, including several starters like Tommy Schmitt and Ruairidh Winters. The Carolina Dynamo were crowned USASA’s National Amateur Champion Sunday at Macpherson Stadium in Greenboro, North Carolina. The four champions of USASA competition, PDL Champion, NPSL Champion, USASA Open Champion and USASA Amateur Champion took part. The Dynamo topped NPSL champion FC Sonic 1-1 (3-2) PKs. The third place game was won by USASA’s Open Champion Croatian Eagles from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They defeated USASA’s Amateur Champion Battery Park Gunners from Boston, Massachusetts 3-1.
